Researchers at the University of Hong Kong have developeddeveloped/dɪˈvɛləpt/L2开发;研制to create or design something new, like a product or system a new artificial intelligence tool called CardiOmicScore. It uses a single blood test to predict serious cardiovascularcardiovascular/ˌkɑːrdi.oʊˈvæskjʊlər/L2心血管的relating to the heart and blood vessels problems up to 15 years early. The system analyzes thousands of proteins and metabolitesmetabolites/məˈtæbəlaɪts/L2代谢物substances produced or used during chemical processes in living cells in the blood.
Older risk tests look at factors like age and smoking history, but they might miss early warning signals inside the body. Genetic tests do not change from birth. This new system captures biologicalbiological/ˌbaɪəˈlɑːdʒɪkəl/L2生物的;生物学的relating to living things or the processes of life changes from diet and exercise. 'Proteins and metabolites reflect our current physical health,' said Professor Zhang Qingpeng. 'Our AI tool decodes these signals to identify risks much earlier.'
The system can predict six major cardiovascular diseases. For example, it can warn about heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure. Patients and doctors have more time to act. They can make lifestyle changes or start early preventionprevention/prɪˈvɛnʃən/L2预防;防止the act of stopping something bad from happening. The findings appeared in the journal Nature Communications.
