A new power link between the UK and Ireland had to change its path. The reason was a small memorialmemorial/məˈmɔːriəl/L1纪念物something that people make to remember a person or event to Dobby, a fictionalfictional/ˈfɪkʃənl/L2虚构的,小说的not real; invented for a story house-elf from the Harry Potter movies. Fans built the gravegrave/ɡreɪv/L1坟墓a place in the ground where a dead person is buried on Freshwater West beach in Wales, where Dobby's death scene was filmed. The £430 million Greenlink cable was going to go straight through the memorial.
Project manager Simon Ludlam did not know about the grave at first. However, fans found out about the plan and made hundreds of calls to his company. "We got hundreds of calls," Ludlam said. The team decided to reroutereroute/riːˈruːt/L2改变路线,改道to change the path or direction of something the cable away from the memorialmemorial/məˈmɔːriəl/L1纪念物something that people make to remember a person or event.
The cable now avoids Dobby's grave, although it goes close to some real Bronze Age remainsremains/rɪˈmeɪnz/L2遗迹,遗骸things that are left from an older time, especially ancient buildings or objects from around 1700 BC. Fans are happy that the memorialmemorial/məˈmɔːriəl/L1纪念物something that people make to remember a person or event is safe. The National Trust asks people not to leave socks on the beach.
